Implementing eLearning Does Not Have To Be Complicated!

Example of S4Carlisle’s online course content capabilities

A common theme throughout many of the blog articles from S4Carlisle has been the importance of online learning for both educational institutions and public and private organizations. According to an article published today in USA TODAY, twenty-nine percent of working professionals say they would quit their jobs if they couldn’t continue working remotely, according to an online survey by LiveCareer, an online resume and job search consulting service. Nearly 50% U.S. workers have been working from home full-time during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Stanford University study.

The article concludes that while some professions cannot be conducted from home, many public and private institutions will have to adapt to a new normal of working from home, or at least alter the work week to accommodate a hybrid of an at-home/in-office workforce (https://bit.ly/38vX34P). This means that institutional training and learning will have to shift to an online environment allowing for interaction between content and employee, learning the content, and being assessed on said content.

While qualitatively different, this scenario plays out similarly in the field of education – be it K-12 or in the halls of higher education. One of the factors acting as a catalyst for altering the educational landscape is the COVID-19 pandemic. Although online learning as long been a part of higher education, it has never been implemented in any comprehensive way at the K-12 level. Many school administrators were caught unprepared for the daunting task of transferring in-class learning to an online environment. Educators were also ill-prepared for the task of teaching large daily classes online. Now, after months of students receiving little or no education, some schools and districts have begun to offer their classes online – but are not having very successful results. The slow rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations means that parents are still cautious about sending their kids back to school, and teachers are still uncertain about entering the classroom.

This means that online learning is still necessary as a solution for your teaching the majority of children. The question becomes how to get students, both and older, to learn the course curriculum? There are three populations that need to be considered: the first is the administration that chooses and pays for the online learning system; the second are educators that create and teach online content, and lastly, there are the students using the online learning environment to retain and show proficiency through assessment.
